Hundreds of residents are at Huntington high School for the start of Relay for Life.
Students, teachers, parents, cancer survivors and others are on scene.
Student Molly Prep, one of the co-chairs of the event, spoke to the crowd about being diagnosed at the age of 7 with leukemia.
Cancer survivors, led by a contingent from the high school band, walked the track to cheers, followed later by a large number of the crowd.
Teams set up tents, prepared to stay the night, and sold food, t-shirts and other items.
This is the second consecutive year that the school has hosted Relay for Life, which is the culmination of fundraising for the American Cancer Society.
