Huntington Station Revitalization Committee Sets 1st Community Meeting

Stakeholders are invited to the Wednesday night meeting, where how to spend $10 million in funding will be discussed.

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — The first community engagement meeting of the Huntington Station Downtown Revitalization Initiative is scheduled for Wednesday evening.

Residents, businesses owners and other interested people are invited to join the meeting and share input.

The meeting is scheduled to run 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Hugh of Lincoln RC Church, at 21 E. 9th St., Huntington Station.

The Town of Huntington was awarded $10 million through the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative program, an approach to boost local economies by adding vibrancy to neighborhoods. The program's goal is creating a community where New Yorkers will want to live, work and raise a family.

  • Vision and goals for the downtown area.
  • Revitalization themes, issues, and opportunities.
  • Potential revitalization projects.

Wednesday’s meeting is the first of three community meetings slated over the next few months. The township said it is important that the process is "inclusive and transparent."

"The Town of Huntington is so incredibly thrilled to receive the DRI Award for Huntington Station," Supervisor Ed Smyth said in a news release. "This $10,000,000 will help to continue the Town's efforts to rejuvenate this community through infrastructure projects, developing and improving the business district and encouraging new industry. All efforts to encourage growth and jobs. We look forward to putting our plans in motion for the betterment of the entire community."

Those who have a project they would like to see considered for funding within downtown Huntington Station were encouraged to attend the first meeting and look for the "Call for Projects" application form on the revitalization initiative website.
