Huntington Theater to Show 'The Interview'
The Cinema Arts Centre is one of about 300 theaters across the country to screen the film Christmas Day.

Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre may be the only theater in Suffolk County showing the controversial film “The Interview,” on Christmas Day.
The theater announced on Facebook it will show the Seth Rogan and James Franco farce about North Korea on Christmas, the date Sony originally intended to release the movie.

Sony Entertainment announced it was pulling the film from theaters after hackers prompted an international incident. But on Tuesday Sony said it had changed course, showing it at independent film houses, including Cinema Arts Centre.
“The major chain theaters decided not to show it,” said Dylan Skolnick, co-director of the Cinema Arts Centre. But, he noted, the Art House Convergence, a national coalition of independent art house cinemas of which Cinema Arts is a member, started a petition to release the movie.
“The decision was very sudden,” Skolnick said, adding that the theater scrambled to fit the movie into its schedule.
“It’s an important thing to do,” Skolnick said about screening the film, noting that suppressing a movie because of threats “sets a bad precedent.”
Additional screenings at Cinema Arts Centre are Friday and Saturday at 10:10 p.m., Sunday at 8:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 10:20 p.m.; Wed Dec. 31 at 11:15 p.m.; and Thursday, Jan. 1 at 10:20 p.m.
According to movie’s Facebook page, 300 theaters have already signed up to show “The Interview,” with additional theaters being added to the list.

Skolnick said staff would be extra alert as to security.
A Suffolk County Police spokesperson said the department “is aware of the potential threats that have been reported with respect to the movie ’The Interview.’”
“We have no specific information or reason to believe that there is any credible threat to any movie theater in Suffolk County,” the spokesperson added. “However, the Suffolk County Police Department will monitor the situation to see if additional police presence is necessary.”
