Hundreds of Southdown primary school students played host to cast members from the Broadway show "Matilda the Musical" Tuesday.
The performance was the reward for the school winning a contest sponsored by public radio station WSHU in Connecticut, part of the station's 13th annual “Music in Our Schools” outreach program.
Music teacher John Murphy submitted the winning entry.
With the help of emcee Shorey Walker, the program featured songs, a question and answer session with three cast members, and a chance to learn some of the Broadway show's choreography.
Kids asked cast members questions about forgetting their lines, their ages when they began performing, and whether the actors ever got bored with their shows.
Enthusiastic throughout the program, children seemed especially delighted when it was time to learn dance moves. And they enjoyed a bit when actor John Arthur Greene, in his Mr. Wormwood character, mocked principal Michelle Marino for reading books.
Videotaping and photos of cast members was not permitted.
