Man Who Fled Fiery Crash In Huntington Faces DWI Charge: Police

The man was located a short time later, police say.

UPDATED at noon on Tuesday: A man faces DWI charges after he fled the scene of a fiery single-car crash in Huntington on Monday evening, police say.

According to authorities, a 23-year-old Huntington Station resident Taroy Hamilton crashed a 2000 Cadillac into a flower bed and pole on New York Avenue, near High Street, causing the vehicle to catch fire at 6:45 p.m.

The man was helped out of the car by passerby and fled the scene before authorities arrived, police say.

He was located a short time later on Sammis Street in Huntington. He was arrested and charged with DWI and leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage.

He was taken to Huntington Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
