Memorial Fund Raises More Than $100K For Whitman Teacher's Family

Vincent Altebrando, who passed away last week, leaves behind a wife and four kids.

A memorial fund to help the family of Walt Whitman High School teacher and wrestling coach Vincent Altebrando has raised more than $100,0000 in just four days.

Altebrando, of Miller Place, died on Friday, April 20 at age 51. He leaves behind a wife and four daughters.

An outpouring of support for Altebrando's family has led to the GoFundMe page increasing its fundraising goal to $125,000. As of Thursday afternoon, the page has raised $101,627.

"Let’s honor Coach and ease the financial burden that comes with losing someone so suddenly," the donation page description says. "This memorial fund is to assist his family. Any donation is greatly appreciated. We thank you with all of our hearts!"

Funeral services for Altebrando were held earlier this week.
