Town Approves Second Phase Of Huntington Village Parking Garage Study

The second phase of the study will cost $12,700.

The Huntington Town Board says it took a "significant" step towards building a parking structure to alleviate the parking issues in Huntington Village at a Tuesday meeting.

The board approved the second phase of a feasibility study, which will cost $12,700, that is looking into the physical and financial benefits of a parking garage.

In January, the Town approved to pay Level G Associates of Old Bethpage $10,000 to perform a consultant study into whether a parking garage would help with the lack of parking available in Huntington Village.

At the recent meeting, the Board voted to extend the contract with Level G Associates. The company completed a report in May that showed it was possible to construct a 528-space parking deck over part of the current municipal parking lot between New and Green Streets.

“This is an exciting next step in bringing the Town closer to a long-term solution for the parking issues in Huntington Village,” Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone said in a press release. “The question of whether to build a parking structure has been discussed for many years, and the fact that we are moving into a detailed study of how to make it happen represents significant progress.”

In the second phase of the study, the Town says Level G will finalize the various models, estimates and projections used to draw its preliminary conclusions. Phase Two will also include a functional plan of the proposed deck, financing models and revenue projections.

The final report will then be submitted to financial institutions and other stakeholders involved in funding and financing the project. The cost of phase two of the study is partially funded by the Town’s Economic Development Corporation.
