'Impish' Whiskey, Walle-E, Whisper And Willow: Huntington Adoptable Pets Of The Week
The kitten quartet members are 3 months old. They had a rough start to life but could make a couple of families' holidays merry and bright.
HUNTINGTON, NY — Whiskey, Walle-E, Whisper and Willow, 3-month-old kittens, are the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter's Huntington Pets of the Week. They are set to join the rest of the crew at the shelter this week.
"Here we have four of Santa’s little elves waiting to make your holidays merry and bright; even though their start to life was not so bright," Debbi Larkin, president of the shelter, said.
The shelter received a call from another rescue back in October about four kittens living under a deck in Ronkonkoma that needed trapping and placement as soon as possible, according to Larkin. The mother was in the area but would often disappear and leave the babies alone.

"We worked with the other rescue for the trapping and then we brought them into the shelter for vetting and placement into foster care…but unfortunately not all at the same time," Larkin said. "Wall-E was the last holdout, we guess he was trying to show everyone how tough and fearless he was!"
Whiskey, a ginger SLH tabby, is the ringleader of the group and the bravest one, Larkin said. He has a little bit of competition with his brother Wall-E, and the girls just follow along. Whiskey is very playful and affectionate and has absolutely no fear of dogs or vacuums. He also loves to climb on people's shoulders and chew their hair. He competed in Newsday’s Cutest Cat Contest and was in the top 10, Larkin said.

Wall-E, white with ginger markings, is also very affectionate, playful, curious, smart and brave, Larkin said. The markings on his head make him look like he has a "Beatle haircut from 1963," she said. One of his favorite pastimes is chasing his tail. He has the loudest non-stop purr of all of them. He shows no fear of dogs or vacuums like his brother. He has no fear of water, either.
"While our vet was trying to listen to his heart he just kept right on purring," Larkin said. "Usually when you turn on a running faucet, that is enough to distract them and make the purring stop —not so with Wall-E!"
Willow (buff with white chest and legs) loves to have her picture taken and is very good at posing, Larkin said. She is very curious and affectionate and loves to have tummy kisses. Not many kittens or cats love anything to do with touching their tummy, but she does. She also has no fear of the vacuum but she is not really fond of the dog, according to Larkin. She will fluff herself up and hiss at the dog who is not the least bit fazed by this display.
Whisper (solid buff tabby) is the runt of the litter and the one who always looks like she is worried about something, Larkin said. She is very playful, sometimes a terror with the others and is very nosy about what is going on around her. Another one who loves tummy kisses and will tap you on the shoulder if she thinks you are not paying enough attention to her. And she will get up close and personal with the dog to let him know she is a force to be reckoned with.
"They all love to be held, love to wrestle and play with any toys they may find at the foster home or your home if they are chosen," Larkin said. "They must all be trying out to be mountain climbers, because they are constantly going up and down the cat condos, sometimes even leaping from one level to another and they will take a nap on top of the crate instead of inside in their bed!"
All four kittens have tested negative for FELV and FIV, tested negative for parasites, had their ears and hearts checked, received all of their vaccines, are litter box trained and are being spayed or neutered this week so when they return to the shelter on Dec. 5, they will all be available for
adoption.
If you are interested in meeting these four kittens, you may call the shelter at 631-757-4517, email cats@laphuntington.org, visit the Facebook page or visit at the Grateful Paw Cat Shelter.
The rescue is at 3 Verleye Ave., East Northport, and visiting hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
The shelter is also open from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights only for those who cannot make it during the daytime hours.
"These four pint-sized elves with their impish behavior will make a great addition to any family," Larkin said. "Since all of them are extremely bonded, we are requesting that they are adopted in pairs. You will have your choice of which two you would like to adopt together but please consider giving them a sibling to go home with. They are very active — as are most elves — and would bring so much holiday joy to your home. And if they have a sibling, we are hoping they will be distracted enough not to decide to climb or re-decorate your Christmas tree!"
