90 Percent Chance of Precipitation, Thunderstorms Monday: LI Weather

LONG ISLAND, NY — Showers and thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall Monday night into Tuesday night, as a frontal system will impact the region, the National Weather Service said.

Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible during this time as well, as Monday night is expected to have a 90 percent chance of precipitation.

Thunderstorms may also occur before 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Sunny skies will reappear Wednesday through Friday, as temperatures remain in the low 80's.

Here is the full week's weather forecast on Long Island from the National Weather Service:

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south in the afternoon.

Monday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Low around 72. Southeast wind 5 to 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tuesday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers before 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southwest wind 7 to 13 mph becoming northwest in the evening.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Northwest wind around 8 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 81.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 69.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 84.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.
