LONG ISLAND, NY — A heat advisory warning is issued for Thursday on Long Island, as heat index values will be as high as 98 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any
length of time.
The advisory will be in effect until 8 p.m.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures, the service said.
The statement comes after a heat advisory was issued on Wednesday.

After a glorious stretch of sunny skies and warm temperatures, rain will visit Long Island this weekend.
Showers will make their appearance early Saturday, and continue into Saturday night, with possible thunderstorms.
Sunday shows a 50 percent chance of rain, which will last through to Monday.
