Coastal Flood Advisory, Heavy Rains, To Continue This Week: LI Weather
Long Island will continue to experience rain from post-tropical cyclone Ophelia, the National Weather Service said.
LONG ISLAND, NY — A coastal flood advisory goes into effect Monday evening for Suffolk County in addition to a rip current statement, as Long Island will continue to experience rain from post-tropical cyclone Ophelia, the National Weather Service said.
It will go into effect at 5 p.m. and will end at 12 a.m. on Tuesday.
Minor to locally moderate flooding is expected in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline.

Roads and low-lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor to locally moderate flooding, the service said.
However, moderate flooding is expected mainly along the Peconic Bay in Riverhead, the service said.

A rip current statement is also in effect until 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Life-threatening rip currents are also likely for all people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf, the service said.
Rain will continue throughout the week as Ophelia continues to weaken as it moves over the mid-Atlantic, CNN reported.
A 90 percent chance of precipitation is in place for Monday, and will go into Monday night, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
On Tuesday, showers will begin to clear up with a 30 percent chance of rain, but with gusts as high as 28 mph.
Wednesday and Thursday will be the week's driest days, with temperatures reaching late 60s.
But rain is expected to return on Friday and into the weekend.

Monday: Rain. Widespread fog. High near 64. Northeast wind 14 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Monday Night: Rain likely, mainly before 8 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 57. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tuesday: A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 64. Northeast wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52. Northeast wind 11 to 13 mph.
Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 67. Northeast wind around 13 mph.
Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 55.
Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 68.
Thursday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.
Friday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69.
Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57.
