LONG ISLAND, NY — A flood watch is in effect on Long Island, as excessive rainfall and possible showers are predicted on Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Slow-moving showers with possible thunderstorms could produce locally heavy downpours today into Monday evening. Excessive runoffs may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, with winds around 5 mph after midnight, the service said.

The flood watch goes into effect at 11 a.m. until midnight. Its announcement comes after the service issued a Marine Weather Statement, as Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots.
