LONG ISLAND, NY — A frontal system is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms to Long Island on Friday, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service.
The heavy downpours are expected to produce isolated to scattered areas of flash flooding.
Thursday is predicted to be calm before the storm, and mostly sunny, with a high near 84 degrees.

Sunny skies will also return on Saturday and Sunday — one of the first clear weekends on Long Islanders so far this summer.

Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 2 p.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Southeast wind, 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
