ISLIP, NY — Several talented Islip students have been "working so hard" to showcase the power of dance.

Islip Middle School’s young actors will present “Footloose the Musical: Youth Edition,” this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 211 Main St.

Directed and choreographed by Taylor Duff, Jessy Gill and Sheila Montouri, “Footloose” is the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago. He and his mother move to the small town of Bomont after his father abandons them. Upon arriving, Ren finds himself at odds with most of the town, including Reverend Shaw.

The reverend has convinced the town to outlaw dancing, which Ren finds unbelievable. With the help of Ariel (the reverend’s daughter) and Willard (a country boy who becomes his best friend), Ren convinces the reverend to let the teenagers dance and in the process helps the town to heal from a tragedy that affected them all.

“I have loved every minute of working with the ‘Footloose’ cast,” Montuori said. “All the students have created an energetic and positive space where they can explore their individual talents and passion for the arts. We are so excited to show off Islip talent and capture an audience with this timeless musical.”
