Labor Day Weekend To Reach 87 Degrees, Despite Swim Ban From Hurricane

Several South Shore beaches continue to suspend swimming due to conditions from Hurricane Franklin. Read on to find out which ones.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Several South Shore Beaches continue to suspend swimming on Thursday, as conditions from Hurricane Franklin produce unusual high tides.

Robert Moses State Park, Jones Beach, and Hither Hills, have closed to swimming until further notice, each beach confirmed with Patch.

Long Beach, which suspended bathing on Wednesday, permitted swimming on Thursday "waist deep." The water is subject to close to swimming at the discretion of the Long Beach Lifeguard Patrol, a social media post said.

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for southern Suffolk County until 6 p.m., as large breaking waves of 6 to 8 feet in the surf zone are expected.

A high rip current risk is also in effect for the area until 8 p.m. dangerous rip currents.

Despite the high surf, the weather for Labor Day weekend is expected to be pleasant on Long Island, with sunny skies and hot temperatures.

Thursday though Saturday reach about the high 70's.

But save the beach or pool days for Sunday and Monday, where temperatures will increase to a high of 87 degrees.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. North wind 11 to 14 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Northeast wind 8 to 10 mph.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 75. Northeast wind 8 to 10 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. South wind 3 to 6 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 77. Light and variable wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.

Monday (Labor Day): Sunny, with a high near 87.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 70.
