The Emporium Shuts Down; New Owner Taking Over Property

The Emporium, the Patchogue nightspot that drew crowds into the village with its array of entertainment options but was also the scene of high-profile criminal incidents, is out of business and in the hands of a new owner. The Emporium's website went dark Friday morning besides a note reading "The Emporium Is Officially Closed. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding."

Deer Park KFC Robbed At Gunpoint

Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a Deer Park fast food restaurant on May 1. According to Suffolk Police, a man entered the KFC located at 1617 Deer Park Ave. around 9:47 p.m., displayed a handgun and stole money from the register. There were no injuries reported and no arrests have been made.

119 LIRR Employees Made More Than $200K Last Year; 8 Top $300K

The number of Long Island Rail Road employees who made more than $200,000 decreased in 2016, but the highest paid employees still took home fatter paychecks compared to previous years, according to payroll data found on the Empire Center for Public Policy’s transparency website, SeeThroughNY.net. One hundred and nineteen employees made more than $200,000 last year, compared to 136 in 2016.

2 Arrested, More Than $100K Worth Of Heroin, Weapons, Fireworks Seized In Long Island Raids: Cops

Two men are behind bars and police say they took more than $100,000 worth of drugs, along with weapons and fireworks, off the streets of Long Island. It happened in back-to-back raids at Suffolk County homes. Suffolk Police first executed a search warrant at a home in the unit block of Beach Lane in Coram around 6 a.m. and arrested 44-year-old Keith Daves, who lives at the home, where police say they seized 349 grams of heroin and other items.

Long Island Girl Continues Quest To Join Boy Scouts, National Organization For Women Lends Support

The future could soon be dawning brighter for a 15-year-old Bridgehampton girl, who's been crusading for years to be allowed to join the Boy Scouts of America. Gary Ireland's daughter, Sydney, is fighting for the right to join the Boy Scouts and earn her Eagle Scout rank. According to NBCNews.com, a meeting of Boy Scouts of America chapter representatives and others took place at BSA headquarters.
