Overnight Detours Coming To LI Expressway In Town Of Islip

The pavement project and detour will take about 4 weeks to complete.

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY — Overnight detours will soon occur for roughly a month on the Long Island Expressway in the Town of Islip, the New York State Department of Transportation announced on Wednesday.

Beginning Thursday night, motorists in eastbound traffic on the Long Island Expressway will be detoured onto the South Service Road between Exit 56 — State Route 111 — in the Town of Islip and Exit 61, or Patchogue-Holbrook Road/Suffolk County Route 19, in Brookhaven Town.

The detours will take place from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Sunday to Thursday nights for about four weeks, weather permitting.

Additionally, one eastbound lane will be closed between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The detours will facilitate a pavement resurfacing project.

Electronic variable message signs along the LIE will display additional updates.
