Possible Thunderstorms Thursday Through Friday, Rip Current Hazards

A high risk of rip current development is likely at ocean beaches, the National Weather Service said.

LONG ISLAND, NY — This weekend's weather will show sunny skies — but after a bit of rain.

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Thursday afternoon through Thursday night.

A hazardous weather outlook is also issued for Friday through Saturday for Long Island, as a high risk of rip current development is likely at ocean beaches, the National Weather Service said.

Possible rainfall will continue throughout Friday, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation.

Skies will begin to clear on Friday night. If you're looking to visit the beach this weekend, Saturday and Sunday will be your best days to soak up sunny and warm temperatures.

Here's the full weekend forecast on Long Island from the National Weather Service:

Thursday: A slight chance of showers, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. East wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 83. South wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64. West wind around 11 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 80. West wind around 11 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 84.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 68.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.
