LONG ISLAND, NY — A coastal flood statement will return into effect for Suffolk County on Thursday, as heavy rain will visit Long Island once again, the National Weather Service said.

A slow moving coastal low will likely bring a widespread 2 to 3 inches of rain late tonight into Saturday, much of this falling Friday morning into evening. This presents an area-wide minor flooding threat, as well as a quick responding minor river flood threat early Friday morning into Friday evening, the service said.

Breaking waves of 4 to 7 ft are predicted to cause significant beach erosion and escarpment, with
scattered areas of beach flooding and dune erosion during the time of high tide, the service said.
