Rain, Possible Thunderstorms, For Last Weekend Of August: LI Weather

LONG ISLAND, NY — Patch hopes readers took advantage of sunny, beach days this week, because the last weekend of August will show rainy skies.

Possible showers are expected Thursday afternoon, and will continue into Thursday night.

A marginal risk of excessive rainfall is issued for Long Island and the tri-state area on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Rain will continue into Saturday morning.

Skies will begin to clear on Saturday night, and by Sunday, clouds will part ways.

Thursday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 72. South wind 9 to 13 mph.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 71. South wind 11 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 3 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 77. South wind 15 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind 10 to 14 mph.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Northwest wind around 9 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78.
