Son Needs Help To Lay Beloved Mother To Rest: 'She Was My Everything'

ISLIP, NY —A young Islip man is mourning the sudden and devastating death of his mother — and now, he needs help to lay her to rest.

A GoFundMe page, "Remembering Mamitá: A Mother, Friend, and Angel," was created by Ariel Paz-Narbaes.

"It is with a heavy heart that I share the devastating loss of my mother, Catalina," Paz-Narbaes wrote on the page. "She was not only my mom but also my best friend and my guide. She was my everything — and with her sudden passing, there has been a void left in our lives that can never truly be filled."

Speaking with Patch, Paz-Narbaes said the loss has been sudden and heartrending. He described their last day, spent together laughing and doing errands, a day filled with the normal, every day and precious moments that make up a shared lifetime.

"Words will never be able to express my pain and sorrow that I will carry," he wrote on the GoFundMe. "I can only find comfort in the fact that her last day was spent with her son, her 'Mi hijo'. I was there when she took her last breath — and I held her in my arms as she went to heaven."

He added: "Now, as I navigate this heartbreaking time, I am faced with unexpected expenses related to her passing, including funeral arrangements, memorial services, and other costs that have quickly added up. As much as I wish I could shoulder this burden on my own, I am reaching out for help."

The future ahead is uncertain after an entire lifetime spent, side by side, mother and son, knowing that together, the two of them could handle anything, as long as they had each other, he said.

In lieu of flowers, Paz-Narbaes wrote, "your contribution, no matter the amount, will make an incredible difference. It will allow me to honor her memory in a way that reflects the beautiful life she lived and the love she gave so freely. If you are unable to donate, sharing this campaign would mean the world to me."

And, he said: "Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support during this challenging time. Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers as we remember and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable woman."

His heart broken, Paz-Nabaes said he finds solace knowing his guiding light is now "resting with her brother, father, and grandma. You will forever be in our hearts, Mamita. Te quiero."
