Suffolk County's High Rip Current Warning Continues Into Tuesday
Anyone visiting beaches should stay out of the surf, the National Weather Service says.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — A high rip current warning continues to be in effect on Tuesday for southern Suffolk County, the National Weather Service said.
Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone, the service said. Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the
best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
The risk also was issued on Monday, encouraging beach goers to proceed to the water with caution.

If you are entering the surf zone, always have a flotation device with you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and yell or wave for help.
The risk will be into effect until 9 p.m., the service said.
