Sunrise Highway To Plan Overnight Detours: NYSDOT

From May 9 to 12, motorists will experience overnight detours near the Town of Islip, NYSDOT says.

ISLIP, NY — The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of upcoming overnight detours on Sunrise Highway, or State Route 27, in the Town of Islip to facilitate a bridge cleaning project.

Traffic will be detoured onto the Service Road between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the following dates at these locations, weather permitting:

  • Monday, May 9 – Eastbound at Exit 50A (Johnson Avenue);
  • Tuesday, May 10 – Westbound at Exit 50 (Lincoln Avenue);
  • Wednesday, May 11 – Westbound at Exit 51 (Nicolls Road/Suffolk County Route 97);
  • Thursday, May 12 - Eastbound at Exit 49 (Lakeland Avenue/Suffolk County Route 93).

Motorists are urged to plan accordingly and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
