Town of Islip Extends Pool, Beach Hours Due To High Temps
Heat index values are expected to reach as high as 101 degrees on Thursday.

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY — As Long Island enters into a string of high heat indexes, the Town of Islip will extend its beach and pool hours.
The Town of Islip Bay Beaches and the Shipwreck Cove Spray Park at Bay Shore Marina will remain open until 7 p.m. on Thursday, the town said on social media.
Casamento Pool, and Roberto Clemente Pool and Spray Park hours will also be extended, until 7:30pm. Additionally, Town Senior Centers will run through 4:30pm.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Thursday, beginning at 11 a.m. and extending through Saturday evening.

The service encourages all to use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
In cases of heat stroke, call 911, the service said.
