9-Year-Old Boy Hit And Killed By Car in Jackson Heights: NYPD
The driver fled the scene but was found nearby and arrested, police said.

JACKSON HEIGHTS, NY – A 9-year-old boy was killed when a car hit him and his mother as they crossed Northern Boulevard in Jackson Heights Saturday, police said.
The boy, identified as Giovanni Ampuero who lived near the scene, suffered injuries to his head and torso. He was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD said. The condition of his mother was not released.
The car, a red Jeep Compass, fled the scene but was found close by and the driver arrested, police said. The driver had been turning left from 70th Street when he hit the boy, police said.

Charges against the driver are pending, the NYPD said.
