Burglars Ambushing Queens Man Scared Off By Wife's Scream: NYPD

Two perps in motorcycle helmets tied the man up and shocked him with a stun gun when they were interrupted by his wife's scream, cops say.

CORONA, QUEENS -- A Queens man ambushed by burglars in his own apartment managed to escape the nightmare relatively unscathed, and he may have his wife to thank for it.

The 40-year-old man was leaving his Corona apartment near 108th Street and 38th Avenue for work on April 15 at around 1 a.m. when he noticed a package at his door, police said.

When he reached down to grab it, two men in motorcycle helmets sprang from the stairwell and shoved him into his apartment, cops said.

The two tied up the man and shocked him with a stun gun in what police suspect was a robbery attempt. But the duo was interrupted by a bloodcurdling scream from the man's wife, who'd emerged from their bedroom after hearing the commotion, authorities said.

Her scream startled the thieves enough to send them running from the apartment in an unknown direction, police said.

The man suffered only a few minor scrapes, cuts and bruises from the attack and refused medical attention at the scene, cops said.

The NYPD is now searching for the two perps behind the break-in, who were caught on tape wearing motorcycle helmets and all-black outfits inside the apartment complex shortly before the attack. Cops described both men as around six feet tall.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
