Shake Shack And Other Local Fare Coming To LaGuardia's Terminal B

The first six restaurants unveiled for LaGuardia's new Terminal B are each inspired by the "New York experience," said Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

EAST ELMHURST, QUEENS -- Travelers flying into the Big Apple at LaGuardia's new Terminal B will soon be able to get a taste of the city's diverse food offerings before leaving the airport.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week announced the first set of restaurants that will debut in LaGuardia's new Terminal B when it starts to reopen later this year, and each selection is designed to give patrons a taste of the authentic "New York experience."

"As LaGuardia Airport transforms into a modern, global gateway, it is critical that travelers have the opportunity to tastes some of the best local dining New York has to offer," Cuomo said.

The terminal's first offerings include: Local burger joint turned global phenomenon Shake Shack, the Hudson Valley's Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, Central Park's Kingside, Chef Julian Medina's East Harlem taqueria La Chula, and celebrity chef Scott Conant's Gramercy-based Italian eatery Osterio Fusco.

LaGuardia will also feature 5 Boroughs Food Emporium, a marketplace custom designed for the airport that will sell snacks, treats, sandwiches and drinks from local vendors.

"The new Terminal B will highlight iconic restaurateurs and give travelers who pass through it an authentic taste of what it's like to be a New Yorker," Cuomo said.

The six eateries will be among more than 50 new restaurants, shops and services from local and national brands slated to open in Laguardia's Terminal B by the time its construction finishes in 2021.

Cuomo announced an $8 billion plan to fix the airport and put all of its terminals under one roof in 2015. Terminal B - housing Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest and United - will open in phases starting later this year. The project will also add more parking lots and fix the roadway system at LaGuardia.

Delta Airlines will makeover Terminals C and D -which will merge to become Terminal C - in a $4 billion project slated to finish by 2026
