Cops Kill Woman Who Attacked Them With Knife In Queens Home: NYPD

Police fatally shot a 54-year-old woman who called 911 to report a burglary and lunged at responding officers with a knife, authorities say.

MASPETH, QUEENS — Police shot and killed a 54-year-old woman in Queens who lunged at them with a knife after calling to report a burglary Monday evening, authorities said.

Four officers responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. to a 911 call of a burglary at a two-family home in Maspeth near 69th Street and 52nd Avenue, police said. They were met by the 54-year-old woman, who identified herself as the 911 caller and told them an intruder was armed with a knife or razor on the home's second floor.

While officers searched the home for the reported perp, the woman followed them inside with a knife "and lunged at them," said NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea.

Shea said body camera footage showed one officer ordering the woman to put the knife down before firing his gun three times and shooting her in the torso.

"It was 50 seconds from the time officers entered the home to shots being fired," he said.

Medics pronounced the woman dead at the scene, where police recovered a 10-inch kitchen knife, Shea said.

The woman's motive for the attack is not yet known, but the home has a history with the 104th precinct, police said.

"What I'll say at this point is there's a number of calls to this residence, and they are varied in nature," Shea said.
