Jamaica Stabber, Backpack Thief Arrested: NYPD

A Jamaica man is in custody on attempted murder and robbery charges for stabbing a man three times and stealing his backpack, police say.

JAMAICA, QUEENS -- A Jamaica man is in custody for a robbery-turned-stabbing that left a man hospitalized in critical condition, police said.

Cops arrested Jeff Platel, 19, on Monday at around 7:15 p.m. for the Jamaica robbery that happened near 90th Avenue and 148th Street. A 27-year-old man was stabbed three times in the early hours of Jan. 21 after trying to run from the man who tried to rob him, Patch previously reported.

Police said Platel came up behind the man and demanded his backpack, then tackled him and stabbed him when the man tried to make a run for it. He then took the man's backpack - which had a laptop and headphones inside - and fled, cops said.
