Queens Man Dies in Pedestrian Crosswalk Crash: NYPD

A Cadillac plowed into the 54-year-old man after he stepped into a South Conduit Avenue crosswalk against the pedestrian signal, police say.

SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, QUEENS -- A 54-year-old Queens man has died after he was hit by a car in a crosswalk just around the corner from his Springfield Gardens home.

Karim Muhammad was crossing South Conduit Avenue at a marked crosswalk near Springfield Boulevard when a Cadillac SRX plowed into him just before 8 p.m. on Monday, police told Patch.

Muhammad had stepped into the left lane of South Conduit Avenue against the crosswalk's pedestrian signal when the 60-year-old driver of the 2015 luxury vehicle slammed into him and knocked him to the pavement, according to an NYPD Highway District investigation.

He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital for severe head trauma, but doctors couldn't save him, police said.

No arrests or summons were issued to the driver, who remained on-scene after the crash, an NYPD spokesman said.
