RICHMOND HILL, QUEENS — Queens will celebrate the start of spring with Richmond Hill's annual Phagwah Parade on Sunday.

Phagwah, or Holi, revelers will usher in the Hindu new year and the arrival of spring with Sunday's parade in Richmond Hill, throwing rainbow-hued powders at each other to celebrate the "Festival of Colors."

The joyful Indo-Caribbean celebration originated in India, where it is known as Holi. Descendants of Hindu families in Guyana and Trinidad organized the first Richmond Hill Phagwah parade in 1988, according to QNS.com.
