Board of Ed to Probe Texting/Social Media Policy
School officials will review the district's code of conduct at Tuesday evening's board of education meeting.

Kings Park school officials are considering tougher disciplinary action when it comes to inappropriate use of social media tools, including texting and cell phone use at Tuesday evening’s board of education meeting.
Students who violate the district’s code of conduct may now face higher levels of infraction, which in some instances could include one to five days of school suspension, losing the ability to earn a Regents diploma or removal from all honor societies. A copy of the proposed changes can be seen here.
Assistant superintendent Ralph Cartisano, who chairs the discipline committee, told Newsday it is important “our code of conduct reflects changes in social media, which not always but more frequently is used as an avenue for bullying.”
The changes will be discussed Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the high school during the board of education’s regular meeting. A second reading of the changes will be discussed at the June 25 board of education meeting.
