Is Garbage a Problem at Mayfair?

When a parking variance that will allow for a new restaurant space to be built at Mayfair was approved earlier this year, one of the concerns that came up was the amount of trash that would be in close proximity to many homes.

Some residents complained of rats, odor and garbage near the residential area that is within 50 feet of the shopping center.

The property, owned by Levin Management, is slated to be a 3,568-square-foot restaurant next to Bagel Boss and behind Verizon Wireless. The space was previously a drive through for the Bank of Smithtown.

On visits to the shopping center, Patch editors have not seen a rat or garbage problem, but multiple residents who live within feet of the shopping have said it's been a difficult issue to deal with and a new restaurant will only bring more food garbage to make the matter worse.

What do you think? Does Mayfair need to clean up or have the owners done a good job at keeping up the quality of life for its neighbors? Do you think a new restaurant will be good or bad for the neighborhood? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
