KP's Top Graduates Offer Words of Advice to Classmates

The 2013 valedictorian and salutatorian address their peers during the school's commencement ceremony.

The valedictorian and salutatorian of Kings Park's Class of 2013, addressed their classmates Thursday in their final goodbye to the school.

Both Intel semifinalists, valedictorian Mayuri Sridhar and salutatorian Kenan Mutlu, worked day and night throughout their high school careers to achieve high GPA scores and make their mark in the academic world. However, their speeches expressed that it is not the grades that matter most, but the experiences they've shared, and the memories that await.

"One day I hope I’ll be seeing your names looking back at me from billboards and TV screens,"Β Sridhar, who will be attending theΒ Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall, said, speaking of the talent among her peers.

Mutlu reminded his classmates that the road to success is not a straight one, but rather a journey of twists and turns that will mark milestones in their lives.

"Don’t panic. Just roll with the punches. Take a deep breath and relax," he said.

The Class of 2013 is a particularly successful one for Kings Park High School. Not only will 95-percent of its seniors be attending college, but the class also earned $11 million in scholarship monies.
