LI Fall Festival Ready to Launch

Four-day festival in Huntington is largest in the Northeast.

The skies may be gray but organizers of theΒ 20th Long Island Fall FestivalΒ are sunny about this weekend's prospects.

With a lineup of features both familiar and new, theΒ festival in Heckscher Park in HuntingtonΒ gets underwayΒ Friday eveningΒ and runs through Monday afternoon.Β  Organizers say the festival is the biggest in the Northeast each year, and it draws thousands of people to Heckscher Park.

"We're in our 20th year, Β and it'sΒ another great opportunity to showcase the town of Huntington. It'sΒ become a regional draw and each year draws on the previous year," saidΒ Bob Bontempi, co-chair of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the festival, along with the Town of Huntington. "Because ofΒ the great work of the chamber staff, Suffolk police and theΒ town of Huntington, we've gotΒ great synergies."

The festival includes anΒ extensive musical lineup, headlined by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam andΒ Taylor Dayne, aΒ carnival, vendors, a meatball eating contest and more. Bontempi said there are more than 200 vendors, selling everything from jewelry to food to energy services and schooling.
