School Board to Issue Statement on Barrett Fundraiser
Kings Park Board of Education will host a public meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kings Park school trustees will continue its public wrestling match with the ethical issues raised by trustee's community fundraiser this Tuesday.
Kings Park Board of Board of Education will host a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kings Park High School. Two key issues on their agenda include a public statement on the ethical questions about board member Liz Barrett's community fundraiser and a resolution on the state's high stakes testing.Â
Last month, Jim McGuire, of Kings Park, asked Kings Park Board of Education on Tuesday night for an update on his request that the fundraiser be reviewed in relation to section 6010 of the Code of Ethics for Board Members, a portion is related to receiving gifts.Â
Board President Marie Goldstein said the board has been struggling to reach a decision on the matter given difficultly obtaining a legal opinion through it's standard avenues, the school district's attorney and New York State School Board Association.Â
By the end of the Nov. 19 meeting, the Board of Education resolved the issue should be brought up for further discussion at the next board meeting. Their agenda calls for a public statement early on Tuesday night.Â
Kings Park school trustees have also scheduled time to discuss a resolution on New York State's new high stakes testing, which has increasingly come under fire under the Common Core and Race to the Top initiative.Â
The full agenda for Tuesday night's meeting can be found on the district's website, by clicking here.Â
