Suffolk PBA Sues County After DA Campaign Donation Rejected: Report
The PBA tried to donate to DA Tierney's campaign but was declined because an ethics board saw a conflict of interest, according to a report.
FORT SALONGA, NY ā The Suffolk Police Benevolent Association is suing the county after its Board of Ethics opposed the PBA donating $5,000 to District Attorney Ray Tierney's campaign in what the PBA is calling a violation of its constitutional rights and state election law, Newsday reported.
Tierney defeated then-incumbent DA Tim Sini in the 2021 election to assume the role.
Tierney rejected the PBA's donation because of an opinion the Board of Ethics issued, with the board opining that police unions or their PACs donating to a district attorney is unethical, Newsday reported. The lawsuit names Suffolk County, the Board of Ethics and its chairman Eric Kopp, as well as Suffolk Legislator Rob Trotta (R ā Fort Salonga) as defendants, according to Newsday.
