A man became wedged under the dock at the Kings Park Bluff after attempting to swim across the river and had to be rescued on Friday.

A swimmer who got caught in a current after attempting to swim across the Nissequogue River had to be rescued on Friday by local responders.
According to Kings Park Fire Chief, Mark O’Brien, a man was wedged under the dock at the Kings Park Bluff after he and another man tried to swim from one side of the river to the other.
Kings Park first responders along with fire department personnel were able to pull the man out of the water. The other swimmer was able to exit the water on his own. O’Brien said the distressed swimmer refused medical treatment. The age and town of the men were not known. Â
Two kayakers were also rescued on Saturday, according to O'Brien, when their blow up kayak began to take on water. The kayakers were able to swim to shore and were walking through the woods when emergency personnel found them.
