MAMARONECK, NY — A paving project is getting underway on a busy Westchester County artery, and there may be a few bumps in the road before things smooth out.

Halmar International informed the Village of Mamaroneck that they are preparing for the final road restoration work on the New York State Department of Transportation’s Route 1 Bridge over the Mamaroneck River.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) said this morning that lane closures will be in place on Route 1 (Boston Post Road) from Library Lane to Spruce Street, with traffic limited to one lane in each direction. The closures were scheduled to start at 6 a.m. and are expected to last for two weeks.

These closures are needed for a paving project, according to the NYSDOT.

Halmar International will replace a full depth of 22 inches of the roadbed.

This will require closing half the road at a time for approximately two weeks and reducing traffic to a single lane in each direction. Concrete barriers will be set up along the middle of the road beginning Friday, May 31, with an anticipated reopening of the full roadway on Friday, June 14.

Following this work, Halmar will require two consecutive night shifts to mill and pave the full project. This portion of the work will include the whole bridge and intersection with Mamaroneck Avenue and down into the Harbor Island Park entrance for approximately 30 linear feet, according to village officials.

Officials said drivers should expect delays and plan accordingly. The schedule is subject to weather.
