Boston Post Road Lane Restrictions Will Last Through Next Year

The NYSDOT is warning drivers to expect delays. One lane of US Route 1, both north and south, will be closed. Flaggers will direct traffic.

MAMARONECK, NY — The ongoing bridge replacement and rehabilitation work over the Mamaroneck River will once again require lane closures from this week until the end of the year.

Beginning this week and continuing through Saturday, December 31, utility work will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. One lane of traffic is expected to remain open in each direction during the work.

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) issued an alert to motorists about potential delays. One lane of US Route 1 (Boston Post Road) northbound and southbound will be closed with flaggers on scene for traffic control, according to the NYSDOT.

Backups should be expected between Library Lane and Spruce Street during the bridge work.
The DOT said lane closures are necessary to reinforce and strengthen the stone arch bridge over the Mamaroneck River. The bridge replacement project is part of a capital improvement initiative in Westchester County. The initiative known as the "Lower Westchester Bridge Bundle" also includes the replacement of the East Lincoln Avenue bridge in Mount Vernon and the Saw Mill River Parkway bridges.

The agency is asking drivers to slow down and drive responsibly in the work zone. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in a driver license suspension, the NYSDOT officials reminds drivers.
