Celebrating A Star Student Who Is A Mentor And Role Model

Luke has that unique quality allowing him to exist in multiple spheres with comfort, yet somehow defies typical stereotypes while thriving.

While Luke gets the accolades for his academics and athletics, he is most happy when his peers are succeeding — he hypes the crowd, attends the games for athletes of all levels, and wants to see others do well.

MAMARONECK, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Patrick who nominated Luke, 12th Grade, of Larchmont-Mamaroneck. With the successes this star student has under his belt, it would be easy to give into vanity, but Luke not only remains humble, he takes pride in helping others to find their own paths to success.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Luke seems to have that unique [ability] that allows him to exist in multiple spheres with comfort, yet somehow defies typical stereotypes while thriving.

SCHOOL- A Senior at Rye Neck HS, Luke is viewed as an influencer and alpha but his interests and actions don't follow a typical path. He is a High Honor Roll student with a 94.9 avg, and earned a scholarship with early admission to Muhlenberg College. At the same time, he is a major athlete, being a captain in multiple sports and being a school record holder.

VOLUNTEERING- Luke has amassed hundreds of hours during his high school career volunteering at various locations. He coaches 4th graders in the local basketball league. He works as a counselor at a summer camp for underprivileged youth. He is a Youth Deacon and teaches Sunday School at his church. And he founded a camp during COVID for neighborhood boys so they could have a social and physical outlet.

SCHOOL SPIRIT- There are not many top athletes who sneak into the mascot costume to cheer on their fellow schoolmates after their game is over. But Luke wore the Panther costume to get crowds fired up this fall.

ATHLETICS- A top lacrosse player who owns multiple school records, led his team a League title, and is the first player in school history to be named All-Section for NY Section 1, Luke loves Rye Neck sports! He also was named All-League in basketball, helping the team to its best record in decades. His leadership is crucial to his teams as he was named captain in both sports this year.

CAUSES- Luke cares about his community being welcoming and fair to all. He participated in BLM and anti-gun violence rallies. More importantly, he helps underclassmen with a Senior-Buddy mentor program.
