This year, in the fall of 2023, Mamaroneck High School hosted FDM, the Fall District Meeting on October 20,2023. FBLA members from schools including FASNY, Henry Hudson, Dominican Academy, and Eastchester came to attend this conference. There were a total of 86 members present. Significant contributors to FBLA who hold high positions, including Sohum Aggarwal, the State Executive Vice President along with Angela Lala, the State Parliament and Elise Carpenter, the State Secretary, were present.

A former FBLA member, Ken Pomeranz, made an appearance as the keynote speaker. He relayed the ideas he acquired during his FBLA experience to the audience.

Pomeranz told the story of his speech at Nationals in 2018. He was running for National Secretary. Standing up in front of a substantial audience reciting a speech that you have memorized well in advance is already difficult. However, in Ken’s case he had changed his speech 30 minutes to an hour before having to be on stage. The previous day, his friend had criticized his speech. After hearing this, Ken frantically worked with his team to revise his speech. Only having it memorized half an hour before presenting, Ken sweated profusely as he began to walk onto stage to present his speech. It resulted in extreme success. FBLA members loved the passion and delivery of Ken’s speech, and he won the role he had desired. Subsequent to the speech, the FBLA members ventured to numerous workshops. There were various types of lesson that businessmen and businesswomen were discussing. The people running these workshops were parents of FBLA members.

Throughout FDM, interviews for district officer positions were being conducted by Maxwell Robinson, the District 3S SVP along with Elise Carpenter. The results of the elections were made by the end of FDM with four positions going to Eastchester and two positions going to Mamaroneck.

Ultimately, FDM was a complete success! Solely by attending this meeting, FBLA members of all ages learned about business related topics that are essential for FBLA through the various workshops. Furthermore, members were given advice about a significant skill of public speaking and delivering a speech by a former FBLA member himself who is now a successful businessman. This surplus information will benefit members now and later on, both in their FBLA careers and in their life outside of FBLA!
