Hommocks Alma Project Relaunches 'Fields For Kids' Not-For-Profit
Three imminent projects are now on tap for new public amenities for kids and grownups in the Larchmont-Mamaroneck community.
LARCHMONT/MAMARONECK, NY — "Go outside and get some fresh air," is more than just a cliché used by overwrought parents. The benefits of doing just that, for both kids and adults, is well-documented and a newly relaunched not-for-profit is making sure there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor play in our neighborhoods.
The Larchmont- Mamaroneck-based not-for-profit Fields for Kids (FFK) announced that the organization has relaunched with new board members and new projects starting this summer. Partnering with the local municipalities and the school district on the Hommocks Alma Project, FFK says that it plans to transform the space behind Hommocks middle school to benefit residents of all ages.
The Hommocks Alma project will kick off with a new Hommocks Outdoor Play Space (HOPS) in the parking lot behind Hommocks Middle School. FFK says that the 1,300 Hommocks students currently lack adequate outdoor space for recess. This project will therefore transform the space to create a new basketball court, ample seating and game tables, fitness equipment and an obstacle course.

"We are so grateful to Fields For Kids for their partnership, support and generosity on behalf of children," President of MUFSD Board of Education Ariana Cohen said. "We are thrilled that our entire middle school will now have daily access to a play space that is fun, innovative and will benefit the physical and mental wellness of our Hommocks students."
This fall, in partnership with the Flint Park Conservancy and the Village of Larchmont, FFK will also provide funding for the renovation of the Alma turf field in Flint Park. The work will replace the expired turf, expand the field and create a better spectator experience with ample seating.

In partnership with the Town of Mamaroneck, FFK also plans to improve the grass fields behind Hommocks.
"We have an ambitious plan to start work this summer and complete all three areas by the end of 2024," President of the Board at FFK Heather Mahland said. "Thanks to the generosity of our community we are able to make these projects a reality that will benefit our community now and future generations of kids. We are asking everyone in the community to follow our work on our website and social media and support these critical capital projects."
