Mamaroneck Schools Earn Spot In League Of Innovative School Districts

MAMARONECK, NY — It's no surprise to those in region that Mamaroneck schools are among the most elite in the nation, but now it's official.

The Mamaroneck Union Free School District has just been accepted into the League of Innovative Schools, a nationwide network of school systems known for connecting and supporting forward-thinking leaders in education. It is the first school district in Westchester County to be awarded this recognition.

MUFSD received the honor based on its educational leadership, commitment to quality and excellence, innovative vision for learning, educational achievements, and collaborative spirit.

Superintendent Charles Sampson expressed his pride in the district and eagerness to partner with fellow educators to explore opportunities with the League.

"The League is highly selective, and with this honor comes a vote of confidence to collaborate with educational and technology thought leaders to co-create, pilot, and scale innovative practices," the superintendent explained. "We can then apply our learnings here in the Mamaroneck schools while also promoting promising practices to other districts across the country."

Working with educators, researchers, technology leaders, and communities, the League of Innovative Schools helps superintendents and district leaders shape the future of teaching and learning through hands-on opportunities to collaborate, connect, and learn.

As the district’s representative to the League, Superintendent Sampson has access to several unique professional learning opportunities, including:

• Attending biannual League convenings, featuring school visits, deep-dive breakout sessions, and networking opportunities
• Connecting through regular in-person and virtual programs and events to see innovations from other districts in action, deepen relationships, and share and learn
• Engaging with other forward-thinking education leaders from around the country around key challenges and generating best practices and resources; and
• Partnering with Digital Promise to pilot new models and co-design solutions that benefit educators and students, including inclusive learning.

"As teaching and learning rapidly evolve amidst the advent of new technologies, the League’s mission to connect innovative education leaders is more vital than ever," Jillian Doggett, director of network support at Digital Promise, said. "Through its network of forward-thinking leaders, the League provides school districts with opportunities to leverage research-backed approaches for addressing complex challenges; stay at the forefront of cutting-edge educational practices; and implement innovative solutions that meet the needs of all students."

The League officially welcomed MUFSD and other new members at its fall convening in Lindsay, CA, last week. The new members’ entrance into the League contributes toward the network’s reach of more than 150 districts across 34 states, and expands its cumulative impact to 4.4 million students served over time.

The League is organized by Digital Promise, a global nonprofit working since 2011 to expand opportunity for every learner by bridging solutions across research, practice, and technology. The nonprofit says that League member districts become catalysts for change by partnering with Digital Promise on research pilots and projects to validate and scale up promising League-led innovations across the network and nationwide.
