Nonna Carola Ristorante + Bar of Mamaroneck Opens Nonna's Pizza... Today!

Living close to Nonna Carola has its advantages beyond proximity to a casual atmosphere, a high quality menu, and owner/management/wait staff who know you and your preferences. One more benefit: Being able to instantly spot when the permit requirement glued to the window of their newly constructed pizza storefront was removed, indicating their readiness to open. That day was today for Nonna's Pizza and I was their first customer!

Maybe it was the cold wind and frosty temps but the freshest of ingredients in the 'pizza margherita' and expert preparation made for a superb result in their stellar red brick oven. Pizzaiolo Leo twirled me the first 'pizza funghi' which somehow largely disappeared from the box almost instantly when I got home. Chef Ricky had explained that when this oven reaches 800F, pizzas can be ready in less than 2 minutes. Other pizzas listed included: Pizza Bianca, Pizza Capricciosa, Pizza Mortadella, Nonna's Pizza, Pizza Diavola Dolce, Pizza Salsiccia and Balkan Pizza, a staff favorite.

When I said I was motivated to publish their soft opening, restaurant manager Danny requested I mention the various other items which can be purchased: Grab 'n Go charcuterie boards, various salads and a host of desserts from cannoli, tarts and tiramisu, to chocolate mousse, flan and macaroons - all super fresh. Of course, there are Italian sodas and beer. By request a customer can have items from the restaurant prepared for pick up altogether at Nonna's Pizza.

Talk about a 'higher and best use' of space: The area converted into Nonna's Pizza had been mere storage for years. Let this attentive staff and owners Brandon and Gerry bring a welcome smile to your face on a cold day like today... and any time, year 'round!

Just when you thought there couldn't possibly be another pizza location in the Village of Mamaroneck. Enjoy. Al buon gusto!
