Painting A Scene: Wallauer Mamaroneck Grand Opening Draws A Crowd

MAMARONECK, NY — Some iconic local businesses helped welcome the long-awaited arrival of another Hudson Valley institution to Mamaroneck.

An estimated 300 area residents, DIY enthusiasts and VIPs came out to celebrate the grand opening of the new Wallauer Paint, Hardware & Design location at 960 Mamaroneck Ave. Attendees had the chance to spin a prize wheel, enter raffle drawings, and enjoy Walter’s Hot Dogs as well as Ralph’s Italian Ices and ice cream.

Elected officials and local dignitaries were on hand to welcome Wallauer, including Village of Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy, Town of Mamaroneck Supervisor Jaine Elkind Eney, Legislator Catherine Parker, Assemblyman Steve Otis and Westchester County Executive George Latimer.

Pediatric cancer survivor Gigi Ambrosio spoke about the support given to children and their families by the Pediatric Cancer Foundation based in Mamaroneck, which will be the recipient of funds raised all month long at all 16 Wallauer locations across the region.

"It is our honor to help support Pediatric Cancer Foundation during the month of September. This cause is one that is very close to my heart and one that hits home when you hear Gigi speak about her experience and the experiences of other families," Wallauer CEO Ed Klein said. "We’re hoping this effort will raise more than $10,000 for PCF."

The company will match donations made at the register at every Wallauer store across Rockland, Westchester and Putnam Counties.

"We are grateful to Wallauer for their support of PCF. This is a significant initiative and one that will help hundreds of families," Pamela Strauss Peligri, President of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation, said.

The company says that the new 6,000 square foot location will offer customers the full line of interior and exterior Benjamin Moore paint and stains. The Mamaroneck location, just around the corner from the Long Island Sound beaches and harbor, will also sell a wide variety of marine equipment and supplies as well as Ace Hardware products, including Yeti, Weber grills, Craftsman products and DeWalt. The store will cater to residential customers and commercial contractors, according to the company.

"Perhaps the best thing we offer here is our customer support," Director of Retail Operations Ethan Mason said. "Our customer service is second to none."

The Mamaroneck store's hours are: Mon.-Fri., 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sat., 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Sun., 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
