Police: Girls Recovering After Katonah Stabbing
Bedford police provide new details into what happened Saturday night on Girdle Ridge Road.
Two girls who were stabbed by their aunt in a violent attack in Katonah Saturday night are recovering at the Westchester County Medical Center, police said today.
Bedford police Lt. Jeffrey Dickan provided new information about the incident at a press conference held this morning.
The 911 call that came from the residence at 85 Girdle Ridge Road around 9:30 p.m. came from the girls attacker, 39-year-old Lisa Turkki of East Syracuse, after she stabbed the girls, said Dickan.

After making the call, Turkki went outside, where she was met by Officer Matthew Hawley, who took her into custody. Hawley went inside and found the two girls, ages 7 and 9, conscious, in a pool of blood.
"I wasn't on the scene, but I heard it was just horrible," said Dickan. He would not comment on her emotional state at the time of her apprehension. Turkki had a minor leg injury, possibly self-inflicted, he said, and she was covered in blood.

Turkki has apparently made statements regarding her actions, but Dickan would not comment on them, citing the ongoing investigation.
The weapons used were kitchen knives have been recovered from the scene. Though Turkki submitted to drug and alcohol tests which have been taken to the Westchester County lab for analysis, said Dickan, "it did not appear she was under the influence."
The parents, who were attending a concert at Caramoor, were paged during the performance. It took only a few minutes for them to return home. State troopers drove the Kellys to the hospital, where the girls had been taken.
Turkki was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, felonies, police said. She was arraigned by Judge Erik Jacobsen and taken to the Westchester County Jail.
She is being held without bail and will appear in Bedford town court on Aug. 5.
