83 Percent Of Mamaroneck Schools Voters Support Budget At Polls
The approved spending plan of $155,518,144 is 3.91 percent higher than the previous budget.

LARCHMONT-MAMARONECK, NY — The polls have closed and the votes are counted — the unofficial results of the Mamaroneck Union Free School District election are in.
The 2023 budget and school board vote, included two seats on the Mamaroneck Board of Education.
The proposed spending plan of $155,518,144 is 3.91 percent higher than the current budget.

The tax levy is expected to rise 2.6 percent.
The budget was approved by voters by a margin of 83 percent to 17 percent.

District officials said most of the increase in budget will go towards increases in salaries, building security, higher costs for utilities, debt service and BOCES services.
"This budget is an articulation of our goals, values and mission as a school systems and serves to ensure a smooth leadership transition by strategically investing in human resources for continuity and stability in all curriculum areas at a significant moment of system change," Superintendent Shaps said about his final budget before retiring. "The budget includes funding to support salaries and employee benefits for anticipated new collective bargaining agreements for four of our five employee units."
Two board seats were up for election. There were two candidates running: David Mendes Carlos and Michele Metsch. Both candidates earned seats.
Proposition Two was also be on the ballot, regarding the establishment of an artificial turf capital reserve for reconstruction/renovation/replacement of artificial turf field Mamaroneck HS. The proposition was passed by voters.
Proposition Three asked voters to decide on an energy savings capital project. This proposition also passed.
