See Which Hudson Valley Restaurants Earned 2023 Wine Spectator Awards
2 HV restaurants won the coveted Grand Award, while 7 were Best of Award of Excellence winners and 13 were Award of Excellence recipients.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — While metro areas like New York City and Paris or high-profile wine-growing regions, like Napa or the Loire Valley, usually get all the attention, our region is gaining recognition among oenophiles.
Wine Spectator just unveiled the 2023 Restaurant Awards winners, which honor the world's best restaurants for wines. This year's awards program recognized 3,505 dining destinations from all 50 states and in more than 70 countries worldwide.
"In a time of technological innovation, restaurants offer the human experience diners are hungry for—listening to their customers and offering personalized experience," Wine Spectator Publisher Marvin R. Shanken said, announcing this year's honorees. "This annual issue celebrates the places where wine is at the top of that conversation. I’m pleased to congratulate all 3,505 restaurants for their dedication to wine and wine-loving diners."

Since 1981, the Restaurant Awards have had three distinct levels: The "Award of Excellence," the "Best of Award of Excellence" and the "Grand Award."
The Award of Excellence is given to restaurants that have "well-curated lists with approximately 90 selections or more. These lists feature quality producers and wines that diners wouldn’t easily find at local wine stores and drink at home. These wine selections also match the restaurant’s cuisine in both style and pricing, giving guests a well-rounded experience." There were 2,001 Award of Excellence winners this year.

The Best of Award of Excellence is given to restaurants that "take their efforts a step further. These lists include around 350 selections or more, representing a breadth of wine regions and styles, as well as vintage depth through vertical collections of notable wines. These restaurants also provide training and educational opportunities for staff so that they can help customers make well-informed wine choices." 1,411 restaurants worldwide received the Best of Award of Excellence award.
The Grand Award is Wine Spectator’s top honor and is given to the world’s elite wine programs. According to Wine Spectator, these restaurants "show unwavering passion and perseverance in strategically building thoughtful, impeccable wine programs, then maintaining and even growing them year after year. These wine lists, which typically have 1,000 or more selections, deliver an incredibly thorough range of leading wineries and outstanding depth in mature vintages, along with bottles in multiple sizes. Along with superior presentation of their wine lists and excellent harmony with their menus, these restaurants offer the highest level of wine service. Wine Spectator reviewers inspect all candidates for the Grand Award to evaluate the overall dining experience and cellar conditions." Only 93 restaurants worldwide received this honor.
Here are the 2023 Hudson Valley winners:
