'Sleighbells On The Avenues' In Larchmont Is Ready To Jingle

LARCHMONT, NY — Santa is still a few weeks away from visiting the Hudson Valley, but the holiday excitement is already getting started in Larchmont and the fun starts just as soon as we find "Frosty."

The village is once again set to light up and will soon be filled with the sound of sleighbells as horse-drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa and tree lightings turn the streets of the picturesque village into a living holiday postcard.

A series of free events organized by the Larchmont Chamber of Commerce and supported by local merchants will take place throughout the holiday season. A taste of a white Christmas is guaranteed when the giant snowglobe comes to Addison Park next to the CVS pharmacy.

Again this year, organizers have created a virtual Larchmont in the cyber-world to help us cross names off our gift-giving lists right from the sofa. Larchmont’s "Digital Downtown" is an online catalog that helps holiday shoppers sort gift lists by category and makes it easier to support local businesses — even taking care of the delivery.

The virtual local retail district includes 50 of Larchmont's most charming and trendy shops and businesses. The one-stop online shopping destination can be found here.

Saturday, December 2:

• Free horse-drawn carriage rides will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at either of two stops, the corner of Larchmont Ave. and Addison St, or the intersection of Chatsworth Ave. and Vanderburgh Ave. Carolers will serenade those waiting in line for their turn.
• Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet kids and grownups from a Snowglobe in Addison Park (next to CVS) from noon - 2 p.m.
• Elsa and Olaf are coming to town. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Elsa will sing and visit with fans in the pocket park on Palmer Avenue between Stefanie’s Kloset and Chase Bank. Olaf will chill with the kids.
• A tree lighting will take place in Constitution Park at dusk.
• "Find Frosty" scavenger hunt for kids from Nov. 25 - Dec. 2. Pick up a Frosty passport at Atelier Modern or Village Mercantile and scout out Frosty charms in stores around town. Cool prizes have been set aside for the victors.
• Wishing Wall Exhibit from Nov. 25 - Jan. 6. The community is invited to visit the Wishing Wall inside of J Anderson's Books to write their wish for the new year and post on a wall created by The Flower Bar. In January, the wishes will be collected into a wreath for display.

A holiday tree trimming contest will run from December 2 to December 31. Five trees located throughout the Palmer and Post Rd. business districts will be decorated by local non-profit organizations. You will be able to vote for your favorite here and the winner will receive a $500 donation from the Larchmont Chamber of Commerce.

The digital downtown will be open for business throughout the holiday season.
